What affects reaction time?
- Sleep
One night of poor sleep (under 6 hours) adds 20–50 ms to your reaction time.
- Age
Reaction time peaks in your mid-20sand slows by roughly 1 ms per year after 25.
- Caffeine
A moderate dose of caffeine reduces reaction time by 15–30 ms.
- Practice
Regular reaction tests improve both raw speed andconsistency — the tighter your variance, the higher you climb.
- Input latency
A 60 Hz laptop panel adds up to 16 ms of display lag. A 240 Hz gaming monitor can shave your score by 10 ms+.
- Focus state
Steady breathing and no music beats hype-mode. Elevated cortisol adds cognitive noise between signal and click.
